Avignon Festival this week, stone carving last
Hello friends,
It’s been a while. Like a lot of people I’m no longer sure how to be online, and no longer sure how to be offline. Naturally I’ve been prioritising the latter.
Now - end of July
I’m in Avignon this week and next as I’m contributing some songs to a wonderful theatre-cum-dance performance The Last Hamlet. I’m thrilled to be involved in this different kind of show than I’m used to and see the Herculean effort that goes in to creating it, and I’m thrilled to be in one place for a bit. The production is touring and is also in Paris, Rome and London later in the year.
As a kid my parents performed in Festival Aix every summer, so we’d all load in to the car and drive to Aix-en-Prevence for six weeks of swimming and sun and nakedness and swifts and lizards and lounging and hornets and cicadas and plays and rehearsals (my parents with The Magic Flute and mine with my Beanie Babies). I grew up thinking that’s what being a touring musician was1, so I’m living a dream right now. Thank you to Ben and the Lost Dog team wanting me to join. Being a musician is all kinds of magic. If any of you out there ever want me for something laterally connected to my music, I’m all ears.
Last week
I did a stone letter carving course. I booked it in January, feeling at a low ebb and needing something to look forwards to. I couldn’t have loved it more. Thank you to Tom and City & Guild for providing such a wonderful informative week. If anyone knows of any good hand lettering courses, I want to learn to do my own version of David Jones (of course I do). That’s all for now I guess.
À bientôt.
